My everyday skincare routine for oily skin
I have had quite the journey with my oily/ combination skin which is also prone to breakouts. But fingers crossed I think I have finally found a skincare routine that works for me that keeps my oily skin calm and break outs to a minimum.
I've tried out quite a lot of products and compiled a lot of research through google, blog and Youtube reviews but I'm now pretty happy with the routine I have. Equally a lot of the products I use for my oily skin are reasonably priced. I still get the odd hormonal break out because, who has perfect skin all the time but I find these are few and far between. I'm not going to pretend I'm a skincare expert but this is a skincare routine for me and I thought I would share in case anyone else with oily skin had the same issues I have had finding affordable products.
These days my skin is glowing, less oily and really healthy these days. These are all the products I use in my daily skincare routine.
My skincare routine
Cleansers for oily skin
First off I start with my cleanser. I tend to double cleanse when I have worn make up, i.e. using two cleansers but if it's been a no make up day, I alternate between these two.
I use Caudelie Instant Foaming Cleanser first as a deep cleanse to remove the make up. Then I use Garnier Pure Active Micellar Water for oily skin.
When cleansing I use a muslin cloth from Facetheory* for the foaming cleanser and reusable cotton pads for the micellar water.
Exfoliators
Next up I either exfoliate my skin with Grums raw espresso face scrub* or Pixi Retinol tonic depending on how badly my skin needs exfoliating. I only exfoliate 2-3 times a week maximum as too much can really damage your skin.
Hydrating Serums
For my serums, I use something anti-aging like the Facetheory Reganacalm serum * with 2% retinol. I love all the other natural ingredients like dill and liquorice which gives it this lovely scent. It also reduces fine lines and boosts the production of collagen. I use this twice a week.
I also use a few of The Ordinary products starting with The Ordinary Niacinamide + Zinc 1% in the morning and before bed. This product has genuinely changed my life. Niacinamide really helps with acne as well as minimising pores and keeping the skin smooth and moisturised.
I also use their Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 and their Caffeine solution under my eyes 3-4 times a week.
Oil free Moisturiser
As my skin is oily and the niacinamide and hylaluronic is often all the moisturising I need. I only moisturise my face 2 times a week maximum when I do, I use Sukin's oil free moisturiser. It's moisturising but doesn't leave my skin greasy and is specifically for blemish prone skin
Face Mask
Once a week I will give my skin a much needed face mask. I've recently been using Facetheory's Green Tea Rescue Mask* which is just feels gorgeous on my skin. I've really seen difference in how my skin looks and it is visibly glowing for days.
